Ku‘ulakai, the god of fishing, creates Hawai‘i’s first fishpond only to have it destroyed by Ko‘ona, a giant supernatural eel. ‘Ai‘ai takes it upon himself to catch Ko‘ona and end his troublemaking ways. This traditional mo‘olelo from the island of Maui shares the story of ‘Ai‘ai, Ko‘ona, and the stones at Leho‘ula, Hana.

The ‘Aha Punana Leo has grown to include eleven preschools, the establishment and support of three K–12 sites, a scholarship program and other educational programs that promote the growth of Hawaiian as a daily language.
